Due to the fact that Gazprom does not give permission to include the Beregovoye gas field in the gas transportation system of Russia, the gas balance of Russia did not receive more than 2bn cubic meters of gas in 2003. If the problem of the Beregovoye field is not settled in the near future, Russian gas pipelines will not receive 6bn cubic meters this year. Valery Otchertsov, the Chairman of the Management Board of ITERA Oil and Gas Company, declared.
According to him, it is necessary to work out a clear and compulsory technique to ensure independent gas producers have access to the system of backbone gas pipelines.
ITERA invested $280m in the Beregovoye gas field and it was put on operation in 2003, but it has not been used till now because Gazprom will not give permission to include it in the gas transportation system of Russia, Otchertsov said.
"This is not the problem of a single private company but of the gas industry in general. This situation does not contribute to investment attractiveness of Russian gas projects," Otchertsov pointed out.
