"ITERA" is the general sponsor of the European highway cycling championship. Russians have harvested the richest "crop" of medals there.
European cycling championship is over in the Moscow Olympic cycling ring. During the four days of the event, over 350 racers from 32 countries and of two age groups – up to 18 and up to 23 – challenged one another in the terrific curves of Krylatskoye hills.
Dmitry Sokolov, a junior from Ufa city, opened the score of Russian victories. He won the time trials on the first championship day.
His coevals, Alexandra Burchenkova and Ekaterina Novozhilova, followed him and added a gold and a silver medals into the Russian team “moneybox”.
After the group race, Mr. Ivan Rovny and Mr. Andrey Solomennikov took the first and the second steps of the podium. “Sure, anything can happen during a race, and no one is guaranteed against a surprise” – Alexander Gusyatnikov, President of Russian Cycling Federation said. – But, frankly, we hoped for a success of our guys. Happily, our hopes came true: they took the first place by the number of medals. In addition to the prize-winners, Timofey Kritsky, Irina Zemlyanskaya, Oksana Kozonchuk and Maria Kazachenko also showed good results. Let me note, that quite a number of gifted Russian cyclists have appeared. They are mostly girls, brought up in Voronezh, Chita, Samara, Velikie Luki, Saint Petersburg, etc. We have not seen such talented girls for the past ten years.
Vladimir Holechek, President of European Cyclist Union, called the European championship in Moscow an unforgettable holiday. He particularly noted ITERA support for Russian cycling, and pointed out that the “oil and gas company is making and essential contribution to development of European and world cycling communities”.
