A meeting was held in Moscow in the framework of unique environmental experiment aimed at preserving the scarce population of the Red Book's Siberian white crane.
According to the statement of ITERA press service made to REGIONS.RU, the first experiment of using hang gliders to lead young White Cranes to show them the migration ways proved to be successful, says Alexander Sorokin, head of the project "The Flight of Hope" and Chief of Department of VNIIpriroda of Rosprirodnadzor. The birds grown in the nursery recognized the guide in the hang glider and followed it towards the wintering grounds exactly like they do with the grown up leaders.
The members of experiment – employees of the All-Russia Scientific and Research Institute of Environmental Protection, Oka Biosphere State Reserve, Yamal Fund "Sterkh", together with representatives of other Russian and foreign environmental organization – stressed scientific importance of the results acquired during the Flight of Hope. The ornithologists are certain that the number of birds taking part in experiment will be higher in future and the program will give a new pulse in a noble business of wild nature protection.
Scientists expressed their gratitude to ITERA Oil and Gas Company, the main sponsor of "The Flight of Hope" for its active supporting the program aimed at preservation of Siberian white cranes.
