Igor Viktorovich MAKAROV

Founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of ITERA International Group of Companies.
Born in Ashkhabad (Turkmenistan) on April 5, 1962. Mr. Makarov graduated from the Turkmen State University in 1983, and then served in the Soviet Army. In 1986 - 1989, he was a professor of the Kazan State University. In 1989 - 1992, he worked for private companies.
For more than 10 years, Igor Makarov was a member of the USSR national cycling team; he is a repeated champion and prizewinner of the all-Union and international cycling competitions; and Master of Sports of International Class.
After completing his sports career, he started developing his own business. He has passed all its stages - from launching a small production and trading business to building up a large international holding company. In 1992, he founded and headed ITERA.
ITERA has become the first private company in the Russian gas market. Since 1994 ITERA has been engaged in gas sales, and starting from 1998 ITERA has been developing its own natural gas production in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region. Being the pioneer among independent companies, ITERA has started gas field development in the Northern territories of Russia.
Igor Makarov, as unchallenged President of the ITERA International Group of Companies (ITERA Group), has been heading the Board of Directors of ITERA Oil and Gas Company since 2002 while performing various public functions. In 2005 he was appointed the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus in Moscow. Since 2008, he has been Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Cycling Federation. In June 2010, he was elected the President of the Russian Cycling Federation. In September 2011, he was elected the member of the Steering Committee of the International Cycling Union (UCI). Since 2012 he is a member of the Board of Directors of OJSC "Transneft" and the Board of Directors of OJSC "Rosneftegaz". Igor Makarov works in the Government Commission on the Fuel and Energy Complex, Regeneration of the Mineral and Raw Materials Base and Increasing the Energy Efficiency of the Economy, and also in the Commission for Strategic Development of the Fuel and Energy Sector and Environmental Security under the President of the Russian Federation.
Mr. Makarov has devoted much attention to charity projects, including a major international charity project "Flight of Hope" - salvation of white cranes.
ITERA is 20 in 2012. Today, the company has dozens of representative offices, branches and subsidiaries in Russia, the CIS and the Baltic States, Europe and the United States. In addition to natural gas business, sphere of interest of ITERA includes development, gas chemistry, and electric-power industry.
For the significant contribution to developing economic relations and strengthening friendship and cooperation between the peoples Igor Makarov was decorated with state awards of Belarus - the Order of People's Friendship and the Medal of Francisk Scorina, Mongolia - the Friendship Medal, and the Republic of Moldova - the Order "Labor Glory". Igor Makarov was awarded by the Russian Orthodox Church and public organizations for charity activities and for participation in execution of social programs. In addition, he was awarded with the Energy of Russia 2003 National Prize within the framework of the Manager of the Year nomination.
