Putin refers to Turkmenistan as a Russia’s friend

Russian president Vladimir Putin has called Turkmenistan a Russia’s friend saying that the two countries have established pragmatic, but warm relationships. "We are very pleased to welcome such a representative delegation of our reliable and traditional partner, our Turkmenian friends", - the head of the Russian state announced receiving Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov and his retinue in the Kremlin.

To quote the Russian leader, "our countries have established steady business relationships, which can be described as pragmatic and quite warm at the same time". "Connecting us are decades of joint background of the uniform state, plus very warm and friendly inter-state relations that have shaped themselves over the recent years, with a focus on economic ties, which keep evolving most efficiently", - Vladimir Putin said.

Speaking to the Turkmenian delegation, he used the form of address as "Dear friends, colleagues", and "heartily greeted" Turkmenian representatives in Moscow. Putin promised that "in addition to oil and gas, there existed other co-operation opportunities to be discussed in detail later today". The head of the Russian state emphasized that “we suggest that such a substantial agenda be presented today for a joint discussion".

"We do appreciate the hospitality and are happy to be here today, in the great empire of Russia", - Berdymukhammedov replied. In his opinion, “there are many things that join us". "I believe, our visit will further consolidate relations between the two states, all to the benefit of both peoples", - he is quoted as saying.

Attending the summit on the Russian part are Victor Khristenko, the Minister of Industry and Energy, Alexei Miller, head of Gazprom, Sergei Prikhod’ko, assistant to the president, Victor Lorents, president of Stroytransgaz, Igor Makarov, president of Itera oil and gas company, German Khan, CEO and management board member of TNK-BP.
