Activities of the Federation of Bicycling of Russia (FBR) in 2009, the performance of Katusha, a professional and a continental cycling teams, in international competitions were in the focus of attention of participants in the meeting of the Board of Guardians of the Federation of Bicycling of Russia. It was held in the head office of ITERA International Group of Companies in Moscow on September 4.
Sergey Chemezov, Chairman of the FBR Board of Guardians, Head of the Russian Technologies, a state corporation, pointed out the achievements and problems the national bicycling had encountered and said that «the development of the national professional bicycling had made a remarkable step forward in 2009». As an example, he mentioned the successful performance by Pro Tour Katusha, the first Russian professional team, in the most important competitions, including Tour de France, as well as victories by young racers in the World and European championship.
After hearing the Federation’s Progress Report for the current year and acknowledging its performance as being satisfactory, the participants in the meeting discussed concrete measures on financing the national bicycling and provision of high-quality preparation of the Russian national teams to European and World championship, and the Olympic Games in London.
According to Oleg Sienko, President of the FBR, Head of Uralvagonzavod (the Urals Railcar Plant) Corporation, «the financial support on the part of the state and business allowed for our racers to compete successfully against the world elite, and to prepare the worthy reserve racers even in the economic crisis conditions». For that matter, he expressed appreciation to ITERA International Group of Companies that had fulfilled in full its financial obligations in front of the Federation and the Katusha Team.
The Board of Guardians asked Peter Chevardov, Executive Director of the Bicycling Development and Support Foundation, who briefed the Board on the Foundation’s activities, to continue persistent work to expand the number of sponsors.
Andrew Chmil, Director of Katusha, the Russian professional team, informed the meeting of the Team’s eight months performance in the Pro Tour competitions. «During that time, – he pointed out, - Katusha won in 22 professional cycling races of the major league».
Igor Makarov, Deputy-Chairman of the FBR Board of Guardians, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ITERA International Group of Companies, expressed his appreciation of Katusha’s performance in its debut season. He stated that ITERA would find a possibility to finance Katusha and the FBR national programs in spite of the crisis».
The Board of Guardians approved of the FBR and the Katusha professional team budgets for 2010.
At the Board of Guardians meeting, diplomas and testimonials were presented to athletes, coaches and specialists for outstanding achievements in sport during the World Championship-2009 among juniors.
